Abstract
A new thrips species, Psephenothrips moundi sp. nov., collected from the leaves of Butea monosperma from Karnataka, is described, and this is the first record of the genus Psephenothrips from India. Furthermore, Liothrips machilus Ananthakrishnan and Varadarasan is synonymised with Psephenothrips machili (Moulton) from Japan. The voucher material including types has been deposited at the National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Insects, Bangalore and the National Pusa Collection, Division of Entomology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
