Abstract

AbstractThe photographic image micro-structure characteristics, such as RMS granularity, MTF, DIR effect, DQE, Wiener spectrum etc., are important parameters for the manufacturers and users of photographic materials. However, there has not been a special measuring system applied to this purpose. A mini-measuring system for analyzing the micro-structure of photographic images is described in this paper. The new system consists of a sample-making device, a measuring device and an analyzing software package. It contains a sinusoidal light intensity modulator in the samplemaking device and highly accurate step-motors are employed in both the sample-making and measuring devices, a CCD is used in the measuring device with high position resolution and high sampling rate. With a user-friendly menu mode, the software package controls operations with convenience and rapidity. The density calibrating program can make the system operate in standard diffuse density, status M colour density or status A colour density.
