Abstract
A new, graphical method for the estimation of the pumping coefficient for a ruby laser is proposed. The pumping coefficient has been determined from the experimental data of the slope efficiency and threshold energy for a 15 cm × 0.95 cm Brewster-ended ruby laser. This has also been determined from the nonlinear relation of the threshold energy as a function of output mirror reflectivity. The coefficient, obtained from the proposed method, reasonably agrees with those obtained from existing methods.
