Abstract

For day‐to‐day needs, high‐resolution weather radar observations can provide an accurate baseline from which to assess future rainfall patterns. For longer time horizons, such as those considered in flood risk assessments or water resource management work, however, stochastic models of precipitation statistics are needed. Relying on a number of randomized simulations gives water managers a more overarching assessment of possible future rainfall scenarios.
