Abstract

ABSTRACT The determination of Mn(II) ion in real objects is an important task in the medicine, pharmacology, biology, chemistry, and engineering sciences. The used methods are usually expensive, hazardous, low effective and time-consuming. In this investigation, a new, green, highly effective, selective, cost-effective and time-saving analytical regent was introduced for Mn(II) determination. The analytical properties of alizarin-3-methylamino-N,N-diacetic acid (AMADAA) immobilised onto polyethylene polyamine-modified polyacrylonitrile (PPP) matrix, AMADAA/PPP, in the determination of Mn(II) ion was studied by the spectrophotometric, potentiodynamic titration, spectroscopic analyses, and X-ray fluorescence and, besides comparing the results, selectivity was checked. It was found that (i) high selectivity, high accuracy, low detection limits, good repeatability, easy regeneration, and high speed are accessible for the proposed analytical procedure, using AMADAA/PPP matrix; (ii) spectroscopic signals of AMADAA-immobilised PPP matrix and its complex with Mn(II) ion were at 500 and 580 nm, respectively; (iii) determination limit of the analytical method for Mn(II) ion was 0.02 µg/mL; (iv) the selectivity of the used reagent, AMADAA/PPP, was very high for Mn(II) ion in the presence of Ca(II), Mg(II), Cd(II), Zn(II) and Fe(II) ions.
