Abstract

A small, new species of clingfish from the Bismarck Archipelago and the Fiji Islands is described. It belongs to a new genus that is apparently specialized for a commensal relationship with certain shallow reef crinoids. Information is presented about the crinoid in the Fiji area and also a useful method for collecting live specimens of the clingfish. The new genus belongs to the Diademichthyinae. Included is a key whereby the three genera in the subfamily may be identified using external characters.
