Abstract
Summary Antipodocottus elegans sp. nov. of the family Cottidae is described and illustrated. It is distributed in eastern Australia at a depth of 402m. It can be distinguished from the other species of Antipodocottus by the dorsal row of 10 scales, the incomplete lateral scale row of 11 scales, the low first dorsal fin, and the characteristic colour pattern of the first dorsal fin (1st to 4th membranes distally dark), second dorsal fin (rays basally with vertical dusky streaks), anal fin (rays with basal dark spots) and the body (sides of body with dark brown spots, etc.).
