Abstract

A tetragonal rutile-type ceramic substitutional solid solution of the composition Cr1−xFexSnSbO6, was found to form in the CrSnSbO6–FeSnSbO6 system in the range 0.0<x<1.0. The new phase was obtained by the high-temperature solid-state reaction. The monophase samples containing Cr1−xFexSnSbO6 were characterised by powder XRD, DTA–TGA, IR, UV–vis-DRS and SEM/EDX methods. The influence of the degree of Fe3+ ion incorporation in the crystal lattice of CrSnSbO6 replacing Cr3+ ions, on the thermal stability, unit cell volume, band gap energies, chromaticity coordinates L*, a* and b* as well as on the position of the IR absorption bands in the spectrum of Cr1−xFexSnSbO6 was determined. The morphology of FeSnSbO6, CrSnSbO6, and solid solution was analysed. Some properties of the new solid solution Cr1−xFexSnSbO6 were compared with those of the known phase Cr1−xFexVSbO6.
