Abstract

Building Automation System (BAS) has been widely adopted in modern commercial and residential units due to the flexibility of control capability offered by the system. This aids the optimization of the existing system (from manually to automatic control). Therefore, an energy consumption can be reduced and leads to cost saving. The operation of lighting, electrical equipment and others (i.e. air conditioning) operated based on conventional building system (manual control) caused huge waste on electrical energy hence contributed to high utility bill on the building operator. Therefore, in this research work, a method of the control system is proposed to improvise the current system of the PC section at Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) library. An Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) is used to study the daylight effect based on 2D and 3D modeling respectively. These modelings are based on the actual personal computer (PC) section. In addition, a preliminary experiment is also conducted by measuring the light intensity using Lux meter. These results experiment are later compared with the modeling data. A new control method is proposed in this work by using Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI). Dali will automatically control of each light through wireless technology as well as provide additional capability to dim the light intensity for further energy saving.
