Abstract

NiCrAl overlay coatings have been manufactured by means of conventional electrodeposition of Ni into a porous electrophoretic deposition layer of CrAl nanoparticles. The NiCrAl coatings are compact with a uniform distribution of Cr and Al elements in nano-length scale. They can thermally grow alumina scales in air at 1000 °C, with parabolic oxidation constants as low as that of the ternary coating counterparts prepared by means of physical vapor deposition technologies such as sputtering and arc ion plating.
