Abstract

This comment extends the discussion of the need for a new agenda for specialist hospitality HRM research contained in the paper by Lashley and Watson in the first issue of this journal. The need to focus on the links between ‘bundles’ of HRM practices designed to secure high employee commitment, and organisational performance is stressed. Nor can hospitality researchers overlook the advantages of adopting the resource-based view of the firm. Given that general HRM researchers are taking an increasing interest in the service sector, the need for specialist hospitality researchers to keep abreast of developments in the general field of theory will be thrown into sharper relief.
