Abstract

For many years an introductory cultural anthropology section at Kansas State University has been taught as a self-paced reading course. Assigned problems stimulate integration of ethnographic data with concepts. Most class periods are reserved for testing. Undergraduate assistants review and score tests during the period they are taken. Currently, the course includes book-length and shorter ethnographic accounts. Students rate the course high, indicating they learn better than in most lecture classes.
