Abstract

Developing countries face myriad challenges to fit into the globalized and digital world. Research abounds in the westernized world about the benefits and perils of on onscreen time usage among youth. However, few developing countries have reflected on the serious nature of potential health threats resulting from hours spent daily online. This mini-review addresses three topics that indicate significant areas for concern: technology, health and identity. Drawing from the review, policy recommendations are offered for the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The context in which Cambodia will need to address these concerns merits a short description of this country’s recent history and its consequences.
