Abstract

A continuum mechanics model which incorporated the recovery effect has been developed to explain the initiation of intergranular wedge-type crack in polycrystalline metallic materials at high temperature. It was considered that there is a critical creep rate for the cracking in high-temperature creep. The model was applied to the prediction of the rupture life in creep. Further, a discussion was made on the initiation of the intergranular wedge-type crack in high-temperature fatigue. A good agreement was found between the result of calculation based on this model and the experimental results.
