Abstract

A statistical method based on wide field photometry is developed to give a quantitative evaluation of sky quality. The parameters used include the sky background brightness and transparency, the S/N and the limiting magnitude. Several tests have been used to check the reliability of the method. The paper shows that the method provides a real-time quantitative monitoring of the sky variation and so help optimize the usage of observing time of the BAO Schmidt CCD system.
