Abstract

A description of a method to approximate the number of Olive ridley females nesting during a so-called arribazon is given. Arribazon is the Spanish term used to describe the synchronized nesting efforts of both species of ridley sea turtle. A method to fit a curve of the average density of nesting females on a stretch of beach 10 meters wide, against the time, each night an arribazon takes, is presented. The curve is used to calculate the number of ridleys that nested during an arribazon night. Summation of the night-totals gives the total number of nesting females during an arribazon.
