Abstract

A meta model for an extended entity-relationship model is presented. This model was used as the data model for the implementation of a database design tool. Interesting aspects of the extended entity-relationship model, for which the meta model is described include generalization hierarchy and minimum and maximum cardinalities. Mapping of the meta model to the relational model of data is presented. In the context of its relational materialization, constraints on the meta model are also described.
