Abstract

This special issue of the European Journal of Operational Research is devoted to the EURO XXIV Conference, that was held at the facilities of the University of Lisbon (Portugal) from July 11 to July 14, 2010. With over 700 sessions for a total of approximately 2350 presentations, and with 2700 participants (delegates and accompanying persons) coming from 69 countries, this was the largest EURO conference ever. After presenting the Programme Committee and the Organizing Committee of the conference, we introduce nine keynote tutorials and one paper awarded with the Management Science Strategic Innovation Prize 2010, which constitute this special issue. They give an exciting overview of the history and the state-of-the-art of optimization.
