Abstract

In the conditions of informatization of society and the information economy, there is a need for objective quantitative and qualitative assessment of research activities of scientists and organizations, including in the sphere of education involving scientific discipline of scientometrics. The article substantiates the feasibility of conducting scientometric research, shows the methodology for evaluating its effectiveness and realization of scientific potential in the context of an increase in information flows, development of science and modern education, as well as presents existing methods of scientometric research and scientometric indicators used in the world practice in the perspective of information competence and informatization of education.
