Abstract

A Ku-band low sidelobe level (SLL) leaky-wave antenna fed by the substrate integrated image guide (SIIG) is proposed in this paper. By utilizing the single-layer PCB technology, the fabrication complexity for an SIIG is reduced. The element spacing of the antenna based on the SIIG can be reduced because the SIIG owns a small waveguide wavelength. Rectangular strips are etched on the top of the SIIG as radiation elements, which exhibit strong radiation ability. Thus, the antenna based on the structure can be realized in a short length with high gain and shaped beam. The gain is 14.4dBi at 13.6 GHz, and the SLL is – 19.2dB. The radiation efficiency is 84.5%.
