Abstract

The use of knowledge-based systems (KBS) for CAD in automatic control and signal processing is discussed. Two applications of such systems are considered: user help for applying a CAD package (method selection, parameter tuning, evaluation of results, and design validation), and intelligent (or expert) filtering, identification, and control. The functionalities and the architecture of a KBS for CAD in automatic control and signal processing are described. This architecture includes a human-machine interface, CAD software, a rule-base partitioned in several rule sets, and an inference engine. The organization and implementation of the knowledge base by means of the expert system generator SMECI are presented. >
