Abstract
This article aims to discuss the importance of fairy tales in child development, raise hypotheses about some questions and/or educational relevance of this practice in the environment of early childhood education to spread the habit of storytelling. Throughout the work, the following will be presented: its origin proposing the concept of child from the past to the present day, such as the plot and narratives seeking evidence that can solve everyday problems, its literary purpose, its contribution to cognitive development, with regard to imagination and creativity, and its influence on the formation of children's identity and personality, evidencing family and school participation - in an individual and collective context.
