Abstract

The non-linear hyperelastic behaviour of a particulate composite, below its yield point, in quasi-static loading, is described. A finite-strain Lagrangian model is proposed. The existence of a thermodynamic potential is assumed. The observable state variable being the total deformation, the optimum elastic strain measure is sought, in order to describe in the best possible fashion the coupling between distortion and volume changes, provided the great disproportion between shear and bulk moduli.
