Abstract

This paper presents a hybrid boost converter that achieves a 14V regulated output and multiple intermediate voltage levels in standard CMOS, targeted for an ultrasound imaging system (UIS) application. The intermediate voltage levels are regulated at 3.5V, 7V, 10.5V from a 1.5V input. For ease of integration with existing intellectual properties (IPs) and for digital back end (DBE) integration flexibility, all switch stresses are kept within 3.5V for standard CMOS compatibility. Implemented in 180nm 1P6M standard CMOS process, the hybrid boost converter achieves efficiency of 78%.
