Abstract
The increasing use of numerous power electronics equipment in low voltage distribution network demand new and innovative solutions to mitigate harmonics and improve efficiency. In this paper a novel hybrid ac/dc distribution system which accommodates both ac and dc loads is proposed in which the dc loads are powered by dc supply itself with a view to reduce harmonics and neutral loading of distribution transformers. Furthermore, a harmonic power recovery scheme is also incorporated into the network which promotes conservation of energy by fruitfully utilizing the harmonic power which is otherwise wasted in the primary delta winding of transformer. The simulation and experimental results of a prototype distribution system demonstrate the effectiveness of the system.
