Abstract

AbstractThis article presents a compact, high‐efficiency, spatially power‐combining system based on WR‐140 waveguide power dividers/combiners and microstrip probe transitions. Using four GaAs MMIC driver amplifiers and four MFET power amplifiers, the combining circuit produced up to 45‐W maximum power output with a gain variation of ±1 dB within the band of 13.8–14.8 GHz. The passive combining efficiency within the operating band was measured over 87%, and PAE was up to 22%. An effective design and tuning method was adopted, and so a high combining efficiency was achieved. The results suggest the efficacy of the design and a strong potential for higher powers by connecting waveguide power dividers/combiners to these combining modules. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
