Abstract

A 7-metal Cd(II)-Nd(III) nanocluster 1 (molecular size 0.7×1.5×2.5 nm) was synthesized from a new salen-type Schiff base ligand. 1 exhibits NIR luminescence response to nitrofuran antibiotics (NFAs) with high sensitivity and selectivity, which is not affected by other antibiotics. The quenching constants (Ksv) and limits of detection (LOD) of NFAs range from 3.24×104 M−1 to 0.94×104 M−1 and from 4.2×10−7 M to 7.9×10−6 M, respectively. It also can be used to detect NFAs in real antimicrobial drugs sold in pharmacy.
