Abstract

Conventional front-end coupling coefficient and load monitoring methods are designed for inductive power transfer (IPT) systems with only one specific compensation scheme. In this paper, a general primary-side coupling coefficient and load monitoring method is proposed for IPT systems with various compensation schemes without any communication feedbacks from the secondary side to the primary side. The proposed monitoring strategy is simple and intuitive, which can be easily implemented using inexpensive digital controllers. Both simulation and experimental results have validated the effectiveness of the proposed primary-side control in achieving accurate coupling coefficients and load estimations for IPT systems.
