Abstract

System reliability is an essential requirement in all kinds of offshore loading/offloading structures. The spread mooring system which is an offshore loading/offloading system can be utilized extensively for the terminal applications that require long service life for various sizes of vessels deployed at various water depths. The estimation of the reliability limits of the system under various operation conditions is an extremely significant task for the operation safety. The operations are associated with a high level of uncertainty and contain a mixture of quantitative and qualitative data. Therefore, a fault tree reliability analysis methodology based on fuzzy set theory has been developed in this study. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis is carried out based on the fuzzy weighted index in order to measure the impact of each basic event on the top event that lead to damage of cargo line for the spread mooring system. The results indicate that this methodology has dreadfully versatile and flexible in application. Therefore, it can easily be used and applied in reliability analysis problems for other offshore structures.
