Abstract

The posterior border and the posterior palatal seal are 2 of the most important areas for maxillary denture retention.1 The determination of these areas is a critical step in impression making. The soft palate can move in a superior position, which may result in air leakage in the posterior area of a complete denture.2 To prevent dislodgement of the denture, the soft palate must be impressed in its superior position when making the definitive impression.3 By creating this contact, air is prevented from passing under the denture during speech or respiration.
