Abstract

A silicified palm fruit collected from the Deccan Intertrappean beds near Shahpura in Mandla District of Madhya Pradesh has been described. It shows close resemblance with the fruits of modern Hyphaene Gaertn., and has been described under a new genus Hyphaeneocarpon, instituted to include fossil fruits belonging to the modern taxa of Hyphaene alliance of Borassoid group of palms.
