Abstract

Gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) has the defect of large computation and long time-delay, which have greatly influenced the real time of system. In order to solve the problem, this paper proposed a parallel algorithm based on graphics process unit (GPU) based on the full analysis of the parallelism of calculating GLCM. Utilizing the parallel calculation possibility of image pixels, multi-thread in GPU are designed to carry out parallel calculation for multiple pixels. The Experiments are performed and demonstrated that the method magnifies the acceleration of calculating GLCM to 14× compared to sequential calculation. It is inferred that the proposed method is highly effective in term of the speed improvements compared to central processing unit (CPU) implementation.
