Abstract

linear production function. More than simply a comment on McCarthy's note, this paper shows that the modified McCarthy function can be used to for the functional forms of the quadratic mean of order a and transcendental; previously there has not been a more general functional form which could be applied to for the quadratic mean of order a flexible functional form and the transcendental form. In addition, it is seen that the transcendental form can be used to test for the form of the popular translog flexible functional form, which is the second-order Taylor's-series approximation of the transcendental form in the neighborhood around a zero value for one parameter.
