Abstract
Objective To explore the features of the genesis and development of late-onset silicosis in vetern corps of engineers. Methods An epidemiological survey on silicosis was conducted in 350 veteran corps of engineers. Results Of 350 veteran corps of engineers, 33 were diagnosed as lateonset silicosis(13 with stage Ⅰ , 8 with stage Ⅱ , and 12 with stage Ⅲ), with an incidence rate of 9.43%.The average age of onset was(57.85 ± 8.18 )years and the duration of dust exposure was(5.52 ± 2.23 )years respectively. The time from non-dust exposure to diagnosis making was(33.91 ± 8.28(years.Chest radiographic examination showed mainly small round opacities -q shape. The incidence of silicosis complicated by pulmonary tuberculosis was 30.30%. Conclusions Higher incidence, older age of onset, shorter duration of dust exposure, longer time from non-dust exposure to diagnosis making, and more complications may be the main epidemiological features of late-onset silicosis in vetern corps of engineers. Key words: Late-onset silicosis; Veteran corps of engineers; Epidemiological
