Abstract

The electric propulsion of cargo ships is not used on a large scale, being preferred only for special vessels. The paper develops a simple and precise dynamic model for a cargo ship, which allows study of the behavior of the electric motor - propulsion system - ship in the two variants Fixed Pitch Propeller (FPP) and Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP). The results obtained by simulation indicate the variant FPP as being more favorable from all points of view: maximum propulsion efficiency, reduced propulsion system costs, good use of the electric engine and increased maneuverability of the ship
