Abstract

A method for the measurement of the difference between the plasma delays caused by fission fragments and alpha particles in surface barrier detectors (SBDs) is presented. With SBDs fabricated from n-type silicon of resistivities ranging from 300 ω cm to 1000 ω cm and applied voltages from 30 V to 80 V the resultant plasma delay differences are about 2 ns. This is approximately the plasma delay from fission fragments, if one assumes that the plasma delay caused by alpha particles is several times smaller.
