Abstract

A 21-year-old woman from the Comoro Islands of Eastern Africa, born to consanguineous (first cousins) parents, presented abnormal movements and gait ataxia. At age 17 years, she had a miscarriage of unknown etiology after the 5th month of pregnancy, and at 18 years, she gave birth to a stillborn child. Her elder sister died at the age of 24 years from a similar, but undiagnosed neurological disorder that appeared 6 years before her death.
