This article has as its theme the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the principle of human dignity. For this, a qualitative methodological, theoretical and bibliographical research was developed, based on the doctrine and legislation on the subject, as well as on jurisprudence, also addressing historical criteria. The general objective was to discuss the composition and importance of the UDHR as a fundamental document in International Human Rights and its implications for domestic law, mainly through the principle of human dignity. It was concluded that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was the starting point for promoting universal respect for these rights, especially the right to a dignified life.
