Abstract

A non-isolated bidirectional dc-dc converter (BDC) topology with improved mode transition technique is proposed in this paper. The proposed bidirectional converter has salient features like reduced mode transition time, better dynamic response and regenerative efficiency in case of motor loads. Further, it has capability to charge batteries with constant current (CC), constant voltage (CV), constant current constant voltage (CCCV) and pulse current (PC) charging schemes. All possible operational modes of BDC have been identified and then detailed operations have been discussed for a 40 W prototype. The functionality and effectiveness of the proposed BDC are demonstrated using simulation and experimental study.
