Abstract

We propose to use a corrugated waveguide, which is placed in the upstream of the wiggler, as a prebuncher and seed power generator of mm-wave FEL. A compacted high-power, high-efficiency mm-wave FEL is expected by using such configuration. As the first step, the experiments of beam extraction and investigations of characteristics of the seed-power generator have been carried out with the 1 MV Lax-1 linac. The corrugated waveguide is designed operating in frequency of 7.9 GHz driven by the Lax-1 linac. Peak output power of about 1.2 MW at 7.8 GHz is radiated in a 50 ns pulse.
