Abstract

The effect of lateral head displacement between the written data and read head segments of a multiple-track magnetic-tape system is investigated in terms of error rates. For displacements greater than the intertrack guard band, the interference from the adjacent track was found to have a significant effect on replayed error rates. A scheme that compensates the replayed signals for the effect of this displacement is presented. Experimental results are presented demonstrating its efficacy. >
