Abstract

Small changes in the current through the heater wire of a Simmons shielded hot-wire anemometer cause large errors in the measured air flow. This arrangement injects a small e.m.f. from the heater wire circuit into the thermocouple circuit, so that the net e.m.f. which is measured is largely independent of small changes in heater current. A small `backing-off' e.m.f., derived from a large-capacity dry cell under light load, is then used to restore the output to a level convenient for application to a recording potentiometer.
