Abstract
This paper contains a comparison of water-based and neat oil grinding fluids when used in the creep feed grinding of a nickel-base alloy with an induced porosity wheel. Grinding with oil resulted in less wheel profile wear and improved surface finish but higher forces in the direction normal to the workpiece travel were obtained and workpiece burn occurred at lower stock removal rates. The implications of these findings for the creep feed grinding of nickel-base alloys are discussed.
