Abstract

This study uncovers the usability and also the impact of TMD’s with frequency & mass proportions to control the vibrations of a building. Here both TMD’s as well as soft-storey are introduced on a weak story (i.e. at its top). Firstly a multi-storied 3D RC outline structural model of a nonlinear time history investigation for 10storey, 20storey and 30 story without TMDs are examined by the help of software and then new models with TMD’s of 2%,3%,4% of mass proportions are taken into consideration later those models are examined and afterwards new models with soft storey at its top are examined separately by using a finite element package SAP2000 with direct combination technique. The models used during the study are being considered to be a commercial building model imaginarily situated in zone 5 of India. The structural parameters such as axial load, shear force, bending moment of such models are examined and results were compared. From results we found that introducing TMD concept as well as SS concept at the top of the building model can be effective in controlling the earth shuttering forces. It is also found that TMD with mass ratio of 4% gives better results compared with other ratios and SS on the top of the building.
