Abstract

A novel ultra-wideband compact slot antenna fed by a grounded coplanar waveguide (CPW) is presented. This antenna is similar to the conventional CPW-fed slot antenna, and a forklike tuning stub and a polygonlike slot are designed in order to increase the operation bandwidth of the antenna. It is investigated numerically and experimentally for its impedance bandwidth, radiation pattern, and gain. The obtained impedance bandwidth of the antenna is from 2.89 to 9.19 GHz (with return loss of less than −9.5 dB), which is over 3.2:1, and good omnidirectional performance over the entire frequency range is achieved. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
