Abstract
In this article, initially a multiband antenna has been designed using two identical slots on the patch surface. The slotted antenna resonates at three different frequencies of 3.35 GHz, 4.5 GHz and 5.5 GHz bands, respectively. Finally, complementary slots have been introduced on the ground plane and all three separate bands have been combined to a single band. As a result, a wide band antenna of bandwidth 3.10 GHz is obtained. The key contribution of this article is the conversion of multiband to wide band using complementary slots on the ground plane. The characteristics analyses of the antenna have been done numerically using IE3D EM simulator and the measurements have been performed with the help N5230A network analyzer (Agilent make) and fully automated anechoic chamber. A parametric study has been conducted to optimize the performances at different frequencies. Prototype antennas with slots have been fabricated, measured, and a remarkable agreement is obtained between the measured and the simulated results. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
