Abstract

Every 13.7 minutes, someone in the United States takes their own life, leaving behind friends and family. Suicide bereavement also been associated with psychiatric disorders, major anxiety, and depression in loved ones left behind. Can one develop emotional strength in the face of tragedy? What factors contribute to resilience? I would say it was acts of love, constantly displayed by a community of caring made up of friends, colleagues, and the leadership of the organization that I work for has enabled me to continue to live a productive life. Caring builds resilience.
