Abstract

The design and the performance are discussed of a commercial measuring cell for the determination of the dielectric constant of gases with a dipolemeter. An account is given of the construction and calibration of an improved gas cell. The instrument is equipped with a parallel-plate capacitor, an adjustable capacitor and a temperature-controlled connection to the dipolemeter. Special attention has been devoted to vacuum tightness. The virtue of the apparatus described resides in the capacitance stability achieved even at high temperatures and the absence of hysteresis when carrying out temperature cycles. It allows accurate and sensitive routine measurements over a wide temperature range.
