Abstract

Let p be an odd prime. We show the existence of a natural correspondence (defined by restriction of characters) between the irreducible characters of degree coprime to p of the symmetric group Spk and those of the k-fold wreath product Sp≀⋯≀Sp. This result allows us to identify a candidate set of non-exceptional characters for symmetric groups.
