Abstract
A 400 keV static ion accelerator is designed to fulfill the requirements on the ion beam quality arising from medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) experiments. The normalized emittance of the modified duoplasmatron type ion source is 0.35 mm mrad MeV 1 2 for a H + ion beam, obtaining a beam current of 60 μA. A rotating disk high voltage generator DISKTRON, developed in ULVAC Corp., is working satisfactorily. The maximum output power of the generator is 1 mA at 400 kV and the voltage stability is of the order of 10 −4. A voltage regulator with a feedback circuit keeps the output voltage at desired values even against to ± 10% change of load current. The total system of the ion accelerator, the output beam quality and the toroidal electrostatic energy analyser in the ultra high vacuum chamber are described.
